EV Charger Installation in Mosman
Licensed Electricians — Sydney's Lower North Shore
Mosman has more period homes than almost any other suburb on the lower north shore. Federation, Californian Bungalow, interwar: many of them heritage listed, which adds a layer of care to any work touching the structure. Mosman also has one of the higher concentrations of Teslas of any Sydney suburb, consistent with a postcode that tends to adopt premium technology early and keep the work done properly.
We are licensed electricians based in Balgowlah, 15 minutes from Mosman, and EV charger installation is one of our primary services. We understand what these older homes need. Every job includes a thorough switchboard assessment, a dedicated 32-amp circuit, and a compliance certificate. Fixed price before anything starts.
On a recent Mosman job, we installed a Zappi EV charger alongside an existing Tesla Powerwall 3 in a sandstone home. The cable run required discreet routing through internal wall cavities and underfloor — no exposed conduit, no visible work on the exterior. That is the kind of job Mosman homes call for, and it is the kind of job we plan for.

Mosman's two charger stories: Tesla and Zappi
The Mosman homeowner installing an EV charger is more likely than most Sydney suburbs to be driving a Tesla. That changes the charger conversation.
Tesla Wall Connector
For Mosman Tesla owners, the Wall Connector is the natural choice. It is purpose-built for the Tesla ecosystem: hardwired, controlled through the Tesla app, and delivers up to 7kW on single-phase, which covers a full overnight charge easily. The current third-generation unit is clean-looking and suited to the type of home Mosman typically offers. We install and commission it, including app setup.
Zappi
For Mosman homeowners with solar and any other EV brand, or Tesla drivers who want solar diversion capability, the Zappi is the right choice. It detects surplus solar production and diverts it directly to the car rather than exporting it back to the grid. It runs in three modes: Fast charges at full rate from the grid; Eco charges only on surplus solar; Eco+ blends solar surplus with a controlled grid top-up. In a suburb like Mosman, the ongoing savings from charging on your own solar are worth having. If you already have a Tesla Powerwall, the Zappi works alongside it — as on the sandstone home job above, where both were running in the same system.
Enphase IQ EV Charger
Designed for Enphase microinverter and battery systems. If you are an Enphase customer, this charger talks to your existing equipment and makes the most of what your solar produces.
Not sure which suits your setup? Tell us your car and whether you have solar. We will confirm the right unit at the quoting stage.
Sungrow EV Charger
If your solar inverter and battery are Sungrow, the Sungrow charger integrates directly with your existing system on the same monitoring platform. For Mosman homes with a Sungrow setup, this is the clean single-brand option.
Switchboard check — what Mosman homes actually need
Before any EV charger goes on a wall, we check your switchboard. In Mosman, this step is particularly important.
A high proportion of Mosman's housing stock predates 1980, and many properties have original or only partially updated electrical infrastructure. Two issues come up more in Mosman than in newer suburbs.
Asbestos. Pre-1980 homes can have asbestos in the fibro-backed internal wall cavities, under the floor, and in or directly behind the switchboard enclosure. We check for this before we touch anything. If asbestos is present, specialist handling is required before electrical work can proceed. We manage that process as part of the job.
Outdated boards. Some period Mosman homes are still running original or part-updated switchboards with ceramic rewireable fuses. A board like this cannot safely support a dedicated EV charging circuit. When we find one, we scope the upgrade and include it in the fixed quote.
Our assessment confirms:
• Asbestos in or around the board (checked on every job, specialist handling required before work proceeds if found)
• Ceramic rewireable fuses (boards running these cannot support an EV circuit and need upgrading first) • Circuit protection: RCDs and circuit breakers must be in place
• Available capacity: enough headroom for a dedicated 32-amp circuit
Switchboard upgrades are more common in Mosman than in newer suburbs. That reflects the housing stock. When an upgrade is needed, it is included in the fixed quote and we handle it ourselves.

What is included in the price
Fixed, itemised quotes. Nothing added on the day.
A standard home EV charger installation in Mosman includes:
• Switchboard assessment
• Supply and installation of your chosen charger
• Dedicated 32-amp circuit from switchboard to charger location
• Discreet cable routing (wall cavities and underfloor where the property requires it) • Mounting hardware and weatherproofing where required
• Testing, commissioning and app setup where applicable
• Compliance certificate (required for all electrical work in NSW)
Price range: $1,995 to $3,750 installed, depending on charger model and cable run length. Mosman properties often have the switchboard at one end of the house and the garage at the other, and period homes frequently require routing through wall cavities or underfloor to keep the installation clean. This is measured in the assessment and included in the fixed quote.

Frequently asked questions
How much does EV charger installation cost in Mosman?
Most home installations in Mosman fall between $1,995 and $3,750 all up. Two factors push jobs toward the higher end here: older switchboards that need upgrading before a circuit can be safely added, and longer cable runs on properties where the board and the garage are at opposite ends of the house. Period homes often also require routing through wall cavities or underfloor to keep the installation looking right. All of this is assessed and included in the fixed quote before anything starts.
Is asbestos a concern for EV charger installation in Mosman?
It can be. A meaningful share of Mosman's housing stock predates 1980, and asbestos is present in some of these homes, including in and around switchboard enclosures. We check for asbestos on every job before we touch anything. If it is present, specialist handling is required before electrical work can proceed. We manage that process as part of the job, not as a separate referral.
Do Mosman homes often need a switchboard upgrade?
More often than newer suburbs, yes. A large proportion of Mosman's housing stock predates 1980, and many of those boards were not designed for the continuous high-draw load of an EV charger. We check every board as part of every quote. When an upgrade is needed, we scope it, price it, and handle it ourselves.
I drive a Tesla. Should I get the Tesla Wall Connector or the Zappi?
The Wall Connector is the fastest and cleanest Tesla-native option: purpose-built, controls through the Tesla app, and delivers up to 7kW overnight. The Zappi adds solar diversion, so if you have solar and want to charge primarily on what your roof produces, the Zappi achieves that for a Tesla too — it also works alongside a Tesla Powerwall. Both are good choices. We will talk through which suits your situation at the quoting stage.
My home is heritage listed. Does that affect the installation?
It can affect where work is visible on the exterior, and some heritage listings restrict fixings to the building fabric. We check the heritage conditions before we quote and design the installation around them. On sandstone and other period homes we regularly route cable through wall cavities and underfloor to keep the installation discreet. A heritage listing does not prevent an EV charger installation in most cases. It shapes how it is done.
