EV Charger Installation in Narrabeen
Licensed Electricians — Northern Beaches, Sydney
Narrabeen has one of the stronger solar adoption rates on the Northern Beaches. Detached homes are the dominant housing type, blocks are generous, and the community here has been early to both solar panels and EVs. If you already have solar, adding an EV charger that runs on what your roof produces is the obvious next step.
We are licensed electricians based in Balgowlah, 25 minutes from Narrabeen, and EV charger installation is one of our primary services. Every job includes a switchboard check, a dedicated 32-amp circuit, and a compliance certificate. Fixed price before anything starts.

Why the Zappi is the right charger for most Narrabeen homes
Narrabeen is a suburb where the solar-to-EV pairing makes particular sense. A high proportion of homes already have panels on the roof. The Zappi is built specifically for this situation: it detects when your solar is generating more than the house is using and diverts that surplus directly to your car.
Zappi runs in three modes. Fast charges at full rate from the grid whenever you need it. Eco charges only when surplus solar is available, with no grid draw at all. Eco+ blends surplus solar with a small grid top-up to maintain a minimum charge rate. Most Narrabeen homeowners with daytime solar run in Eco mode and find their car is comfortably charged each morning from the previous day's production.
On a clear Narrabeen summer day, a home with a decent-sized solar system and a Zappi can charge an EV almost entirely on what the roof generates. The grid bill stays flat even as the car racks up kilometres.

Zappi
Works with any EV, any brand. Detects surplus solar and diverts it to the car. The right choice for most Narrabeen homes already on solar.
Tesla Wall Connector
For Narrabeen Tesla owners who want a permanent hardwired charger, the Wall Connector connects to the Tesla app and delivers up to 7kW on single-phase. It does not have built-in solar diversion, so if charging on your own solar is the goal, the Zappi is the stronger choice. We install the current third-generation unit.
Sungrow EV Charger
Narrabeen has a good number of homes that installed Sungrow inverters and batteries during the solar boom years. If yours is one of them, the Sungrow EV charger integrates directly with your existing system. One platform, one monitoring app.
Enphase IQ EV Charger
Designed for Enphase microinverter and battery systems. If you are an Enphase customer, this charger talks to your existing equipment and optimises around what your solar is already producing.
Not sure which suits your setup? Tell us your car and whether you have solar. We will confirm the right unit at the quoting stage.
Switchboard check — what Narrabeen homes actually need
Before any EV charger goes on a wall, we check your switchboard. This is not a formality. A switchboard that cannot handle continuous high draw is a safety risk.
Most Narrabeen homes are post-1970 construction: brick veneer and project homes built with modern switchboard standards and generally in solid condition. The older fibro and brick cottages closer to the lagoon foreshore are more likely to be original 1960s or early-1970s builds, and some of these still have boards that need checking before we can safely add an EV circuit.
Our assessment covers:
• Asbestos in or around the board (more common in pre-1980 builds, requires specialist handling before work can proceed)
• Ceramic rewireable fuses (boards running these cannot support an EV circuit and need upgrading first)
• Circuit protection: RCDs and circuit breakers must be in place
• Available capacity: the board needs headroom for a dedicated 32-amp circuit
The majority of Narrabeen homes are in good shape. When a board does need attention, we include the upgrade in the fixed quote and handle it ourselves. You do not need a separate electrician.

What is included in the price
Energy Culture quotes are fixed and itemised. Nothing is added on the day. A standard home EV charger installation in Manly includes:
• Switchboard assessment
• Supply and installation of the charger unit
• Dedicated 32-amp circuit from the switchboard to the charger location
• Mounting hardware and weatherproofing where required
• Testing and commissioning
• Compliance certificate (required for all electrical work in NSW) Price range: $1,995 to $3,750 installed, depending on charger model and cable run length. If a switchboard upgrade is required, we include it in the quote so you see the full cost upfront.
What to expect on the day
A standard installation in Narrabeen takes two to four hours. Jobs with a switchboard upgrade take longer and we confirm the full timeline in your quote.

Frequently asked questions
Can I charge my EV for free using solar — and will it affect my feed-in tariff?
Yes to both, and they are worth thinking about together. The Zappi in Eco mode diverts surplus solar to your car instead of sending it back to the grid. That means you use more of what you generate and export less. Your feed-in tariff earnings go down slightly, but instead of earning a low feed-in rate per kWh you are fuelling a car — which costs considerably more per kWh to charge from the grid. For most Narrabeen homes with solar and a car, the maths strongly favours the Zappi. We are happy to walk through the numbers at the quoting stage.
How much does EV charger installation cost in Narrabeen?
Most home installations in Narrabeen fall between $1,995 and $3,750 all up. The main variables are the charger model and the cable run length. Narrabeen's larger blocks sometimes mean a longer run from switchboard to garage. This is measured in the assessment and included in the fixed quote before anything starts.
Do Narrabeen homes need a switchboard upgrade before installing an EV charger?
Most do not. The majority of Narrabeen homes are post-1970 with switchboards in reasonable condition. The exception is the older cottages closer to the lagoon foreshore, which are more likely to need a check and occasionally an upgrade. We assess every board before committing to a price, and if an upgrade is needed, it is included in the quote.
I have a Sungrow solar system — which charger should I get?
The Sungrow EV charger is the natural fit. It integrates directly with your existing Sungrow inverter and battery on the same monitoring platform, so everything is managed in one place. If solar diversion is the priority and you want the flexibility to switch systems later, the Zappi also works well alongside Sungrow. We will talk through both options at the quoting stage.
How long does the installation take in Narrabeen?
A standard installation takes two to four hours. Larger blocks occasionally mean a longer cable run, which can extend the job slightly. We confirm the full timeline in the quote.
